Synopsis
This award-winning documentary follows Pussy Riot, the feminist punk collective that became a symbol of resistance in Russia, and chronicles its confrontation with Vladimir Putin’s conservative regime.
Filmed from within the group from its earliest days, the film captures Pussy Riot’s clandestine actions and performances on Red Square and inside Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, as well as the arrest, trial and imprisonment that followed. In 2012, two members of the collective were sentenced to two years in penal colonies in Mordovia.
Through rare, intimate footage, the film offers an inside view of a secretive art collective whose provocative performances transformed political protest into a global cultural phenomenon.
