On November 11, we will hold two workshops based on our documentary MEMORIAL / LIQUIDATION inside the historic prison building of the Menschenrechtszentrum / Gedenkstätte Zuchthaus Cottbus. One workshop will be for high school students, and the other for adult residents of Cottbus.
Built in the 19th century, this former prison held political prisoners under both the Nazi regime and the GDR dictatorship. During the Nazi period, anti-fascist resistance fighters from Germany and occupied European countries were imprisoned here. Later, under the GDR, it held dissidents and people imprisoned for attempting to leave East Germany.
Through film excerpts, archival materials, and discussions, we will explore the history of Memorial, political repression, civic responsibility and the struggle to preserve historical memory.
The film follows the liquidation of Memorial and the people who have continued its work of preserving the memory of Soviet political repression and defending human rights in Russia.
The screening will take place at Bertha DocHouse on 29 October at 6:30 pm. Organised by Pushkin House, it coincides with Returning the Names, the annual remembrance event held on the same day.

At this event, we experimented for the first time with a new format for our practice: live film editing. We screened excerpts from Memorial / Liquidation accompanied by our live commentary, as well as additional footage that was not included in the final film but that, in our view, deserves to be seen and discussed in its own right.

The short story Le Dragon blanc (The White Dragon) won the prize in the “My First Short Story in French” category.
This short story is a deeply personal work, dedicated to Vasily’s daughter. Now a young adult, she returns to Moscow in search of her roots and identity.
The awards ceremony took place in the Gilles Deleuze thesis defence room at Université Paris 8.

ANAMNESIA was an exhibition and symposium exploring how contemporary art engages with the memory of Soviet repression and resists mechanisms of erasure and forgetting. The project brought together artists’ works and an international symposium held at ENSA Paris-Malaquais, the Institute of Slavic Studies and the Sorbonne.
We presented a video work centred on “Returning the Names”, dedicated to bringing the names and faces of victims of Stalinist repression back into public space — people whom the Stalinist regime had sought not only to eliminate physically, but also to erase from collective memory.
The participating artists included Taisiya Krugovykh and Vasily Bogatov. The exhibition was curated by Tatiana Efrussi and Elizaveta Konovalova.

The poster for the event was based on an advertisement for the Sony Portapak, the first mass-market portable video camera, released in 1967. The camera revolutionized documentary filmmaking, political activism, performance, and video art.
Vasily Bogatov presented the long-standing practice of the Gogol’s Wives collective in the field of political activist art, tracing how the collective’s work and artistic approaches have evolved over the years.
The following day, a closed screening of Memorial / Liquidation took place at the Jan van Eyck Academie.
